Astrology: What Signs Are Naturally Compatible?

The four basic astrologic elements are earth, wind, fire, and water. Discovering your own element will give you the opportunity to better understand yourself, and ultimately, those around you.

The Earth Signs

Virgo, Taurus, and Capricorn are all under the element of earth. These individuals possess the gift of being grounded. They are in tune with the beauty of nature, animals, and all things earthly. While they may be dreamers, they also know how to reach for their goals, and have the perseverance to find what it is that make them happy.

The earth signs traditionally get along best with their fellow earth signs. They are also compatible with water signs. Earth signs and air signs can develop a relationship, but usually not anything special - probably nothing more than a fleeting love or a friendship. Fire signs will be held back by earth signs, and earth signs will become frustrated with a fire sign’s need for attention.

The Wind Signs

Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are all wind signs. They analyze everything and anything, sometimes to the point of overkill. They are known for their incredible intelligence and social intellect. They love to explore, and have no problem vocalizing their thoughts, feelings, or concerns to anyone who will listen. Wind signs have a tendency to develop a few close, tight relationships, are very close to family, and will dedicate their lives to their small group of friends, rather than building large social networks.

Wind signs get along great with other wind signs, water signs, and fire signs. Because wind signs are loving and expressive, they are very compatible with just about anyone. Earth signs, however, may find it hard to get along with a wind sign, because of a wind sign’s need to analyze, where an earth sign is more laid back and enjoys life as it comes.

The Fire Signs

Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo are the fire signs of the elements. Fire signs are notoriously energetic, and genuinely love life. They demand being the center of attention, and prefer to find themselves in larger groups, rather than in small, intimate settings. Debating is a favorite past time of these individuals, who will continue to press the issue until others agree with their thought process. Spontaneity and impulse are major characteristics of the fire signs.

In true fire fashion, fire signs are in love with their own fellow fire signs more than anything. Fire signs can keep up with each others need to discuss and debate things heavily. Wind signs are also a good match for a fire sign. Water signs should stay away from fire signs, as water signs can disrupt them with their emotional needs.

The Water Signs

Scorpio, Pisces, and Cancer make up the water signs. Known for their psychic abilities and naturally inquisitive minds, they often find themselves the center of some interesting situations. They are by nature very caring, nurturing, and compassionate, even to complete strangers. They follow their instincts, and are usually correct. Hard-headed and stubborn, they will do whatever it takes to do what they believe needs to be done.

Water signs do best with other water signs, who understand their emotional needs, and their deep connection with the unexplained. Water signs are also the most knowledgeable about the nurturing nature and needs of other water signs. Wind and earth signs also get along fine, although it may take extra effort on wind and earth to keep up with water signs mentally. Fire and water, as with anything else, do not mix.
